The car loses power, but pulling over, turning off the engine and restarting seems to fix it (temporarily). Jaguar Land Rover Technician here, but have a friends Ford Focus currently broken down on our local pub car park. Haven’t looked at it yet, but symptoms are as above. Engine Malfunction light on with fault tone and rapid flicker immobiliser. NON start with no attempt to crank. No checks have been done yet. I plan on obtaining second key to test.

I assumed that either (somehow) it had detected the oil had become so degraded and the oil change fixed it, or it brings up "Engine Malfunction" after a certain number of miles have been driven with the oil service warning ignored. I started by having my cruise intermittently not working, and replaced the break light switch with no avail. On Thursday, mid drive to north wales, my car came up with an engine fault, 'engine malfunction service now' amber light. I lost some 'umph' id say to the engine, so drove A new sensor from Ford is £150ish but it looks like you could just buy the TRW sensor for half that if you shop around and it’s physically identical.
